The short version

Six of our free tools (the eligibility checker, court finder, demand letter generator, interest calculator, fee waiver checker, and deadline calculator) run entirely in your browser. Nothing you type into them is ever sent to us. Two things on this site do involve data leaving your browser: basic site analytics, and, if you use it, the "Ask a question" assistant and the launch waitlist form. Details below.

Site analytics

We use Google Analytics (via Google Tag Manager) to understand aggregate traffic, like which pages get visited and roughly how, not to identify you individually. This sets a small number of cookies in your browser. You'll see a one-time cookie notice on your first visit; you can also opt out of Google Analytics entirely using Google's browser add-on, or block cookies in your browser settings. See Google's own Privacy Policy for how they handle this data.

The "Ask a question" assistant

If you use the free Q&A tool, your question and recent conversation history are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate a response, that's necessary for it to work. SmallClaimsHQ doesn't log or store your questions. Anthropic processes that data under its own Privacy Policy. Don't include anything in a question you wouldn't want processed by a third-party AI provider, like account numbers or other sensitive personal details, they're never necessary to get a useful answer to a procedural question.

Joining the launch waitlist

If you leave your email on the pricing page to be notified when the filing service launches, that email address is stored with our email provider, Mailjet, solely to send you that one notification (and let you know about related updates if you don't unsubscribe first). We don't sell or rent your email to anyone. See Mailjet's own Privacy Policy for how they handle it. Every email includes an unsubscribe link.

What we don't do

We don't sell your personal information. We don't run ad-retargeting pixels. We don't build advertising profiles. We don't share what you type into the free calculators with anyone, because it never reaches us in the first place.

Cookies, specifically

Beyond the Google Analytics cookies described above, we set one small local storage flag in your browser to remember that you've dismissed the cookie notice. That's it, no tracking or advertising cookies.

Your rights

If you're a California resident, you generally have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, request its deletion, and opt out of its sale (we don't sell personal information, so there's nothing to opt out of). To exercise any of these, email us at the address below. Since the free calculators never send us your data, there's usually nothing on file to request beyond a waitlist email address if you gave us one.

Children's privacy

This site isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them.

Security

We use reasonable measures to protect what limited data we do handle (like waitlist emails), but no method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We'll update the date at the top of this page if this policy changes materially.
