Does this generator use my exact words, or does it add legal language?

It uses your exact words. You describe what happened yourself, and the tool assembles it into a standard letter format with your name, the amount, and a deadline. It never adds legal arguments or advice on your behalf.

Is the letter this generates good enough to actually send?

Yes. It follows the same structure California courts expect to see on a demand: the facts, one exact amount, one deadline, and one consequence. Print it, sign it, and send it certified mail with return receipt requested so you have proof it was delivered.

Is this really free, and is my information private?

Do I have to send a demand letter before I can sue?

California generally expects you to have tried to resolve things first, and SC-100 item 4 asks whether you did. A letter is the version of that you can prove you sent.
