Who qualifies for a California court fee waiver?

Generally anyone who receives certain public benefits, whose gross household income is at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines for their household size, or whose income doesn't cover their household's basic needs plus the court fees (Gov. Code § 68632; form FW-001).

Does this tool file the fee waiver for me?

No. It only estimates which box you'd likely check on form FW-001. You still fill out and file the real FW-001 with the court, either with your case or afterward.

What happens if my fee waiver is approved?

The court waives your filing fee and certain other costs. If you later settle or win $10,000 or more, the court can place a lien on that amount for the fees it waived.
